Have you ever struggled with how best to explain Jewish culture or holidays to your non-Jewish friends? Dr. Robert Schoen can definitely relate! Schoen’s award-winning book, What I Wish My Christian Friends Knew about Judaism, is a personal and humorous overview of Jewish religious practices, holidays and celebrations, and life-cycle events. Schoen believes that while it may not always be easy to define or explain Jewish belief and practice, it is still very important to help bridge the gap between Jews and Christians, to provide a call for understanding and tolerance, and to be a messenger for what Judaism represents within the Christian community.
Schoen will explore this topic through his personal experience, readings, and humor on Thursday, May 3, 7 p.m. at the Osher Marin JCC. There will be plenty of time for audience questions. Books will be available for sale, and the author will be happy to sign copies. The cost is $6 member / $8 public. Call 444-8000 for tickets. Childcare with pizza dinner is included. Call 444-8066 by April 30 to reserve childcare.
