Two recent initiatives of Jewish Community Information and Referral are providing families with new babies with a plethora of resources for raising Jewish children. Chai Baby (Chai means life in Hebrew) is directed to families of newborns and according to Gail Green, JCI&R director, provides a veritable toolbox of Jewish resources.
Besides some very cute gifts, Green says, there are informative articles for parents about creating a Jewish household, building a Jewish home, the magic of Shabbat, Jewish parenting and more.
P.J. Library, a national program, is the follow-up to Chai Baby. Recipients are enrolled in a Jewish baby book club. They receive an age-appropriate book with a Jewish theme each month from the time the child is six months to two years old.
The programs, which are directed to interfaith families and families in which both partners are Jewish, are a huge success, Green said.
