July 2007
Regional News
San Francisco

For movie buffs, July brings a bonanza of compelling, evocative and simply entertaining films to the Bay Area. The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival runs from July 19 to August 6 in San Francisco, Berkeley, Palo Alto and San Rafael. San Francisco, the home of the 27-year-old festival, can boast the longest run and the most films – all shown at the Castro Theater.

This year Interfaith Connection, Project Welcome and Building Jewish Bridges, three programs for intermarried couples, are co-sponsoring the French romantic comedy Bad Faith. The film is about a Jewish/Muslim couple and the challenges they face when it becomes clear they’re not just dating. The program describes it this way: “Clara’s parents, though not exactly observant, receive the news as a religious tragedy, while Ishmael’s friends register it as a political earthquake.”

You’re invited to go to the movies and have a bite to eat before or after with the sponsoring groups. For information, contact them at the numbers below. And check out the full program of films at www.sfjff.org.
