Interfaith Connection is based at the San Francisco Jewish Community Center, but the agency, which has been serving Bay Area interfaith families since the mid-1980s, presents programs in San Francisco, the Peninsula and Marin. Programs range from one-session topics to continuing discussion groups and encompass the common issues faced by couples with one Jewish partner. In order to make information accessible to everyone, scholarships are available.
In May, there are two programs scheduled. A Discussion Series for Interfaith/Intercultural Couples is a nine-week series, beginning Monday, May 14. Groups will be led by Helena McMahon, LCSW or John Steinfirst, LCSW and will cover family and child-rearing issues as well as holiday celebrations and spiritual concerns. The cost is based on a sliding scale.
On Friday, May 18, at 6 p.m., Jonathan Bayer, JCCSF song leader, will lead a Shabbat Dinner for Interfaith/Intercultural Couples, Families and Friends. Besides enjoying a delicious Shabbat meal, participants will learn about the significance of the Sabbath, recite the blessings and sing Shabbat songs in a fun and festive community setting, perfect for the whole family.
