The holiday season has arrived! Thanksgiving, a celebration without direct religious ties, offers all of us an opportunity to reconnect with family and friends, to share in a festive meal and to reflect upon all of the people and things for which we are grateful – our children, our health and our relationships to name just a few.
The Chanukah-Christmas celebrations can be a bit more complicated. Here at Interfaith Connection, we are very focused on healthy relationships – especially those between interfaith and intercultural couples and families. We know that the November-December holidays can be a time of great joy, where couples and families are spending quality time together deepening their bonds and creating priceless memories. We also know that the holidays can be a time of great stress, when tensions rise due to challenging family dynamics and decisions that need to be made about how to celebrate. This holiday season we are offering a new program that allows us to shift our focus from the external realities of the holidays to our personal, internal experiences—about what comes up for us spiritually during this time of year.
As part of this new program, on Sunday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m., we will welcome Karen Erlichman, a licensed clinical social worker, spiritual director and leader of many interfaith groups to lead a session titled “Who Is God?” This morning program will offer participants a chance to look at their own beliefs in God, Jewish concepts of God and to participate in a discussion that will focus on the range of God concepts and spiritual expression that exist in interfaith/intercultural partnerships. We will also be serving a delicious bagel brunch and hope to see you there.
Stay tuned for more exciting programs coming in January and February and for a detailed account of my recent trip to Israel.
