To TREE or not to TREE? What will we do for the Holidays?
For interfaith families this is a question of a different sort. While a Catholic family may know that they will go to mass and a Jewish family know that they will make latkes with Aunt Sophie, an interfaith family may consider doing both, some of both, neither – or they may decide to buy tickets for Hawaii! The Christmas tree often looms large in the home décor department in December. What will work for your family? Is a tree a loving concession to an accommodating partner or the invasive alien from another culture?
Whether December is your favorite time – full of Christmas cookies and chocolate gelt – or your most dreaded month with all those piped in Christmas carols and mass materialism, for the interfaith family there can be plenty to talk about. From the first TV ad in October to the clinking of glasses on New Year’s Eve, this is the season of decisions. Want to come to an open and supportive discussion of the December adventure? A congregation in Alameda and one in Contra Costa will be hosting a discussion. Give me a call for details.
