If you’re looking for a way to touch something Jewish without a major commitment, check out the classes at the Peninsula JCC. Among the subjects of offerings this fall are Shabbat dinners, klezmer music, Jewish books and the Jewish artist Modigliani.
Three intimate Shabbat Dinners for 10, each with a discussion topic about food, led by an expert in the area, will begin with blessings and end with dessert. The topics are eating organic with Alix Wall; eating kosher with rabbi Marvin Goodman; and ayurveda with Dr. Jay Apte.
At the Klezmer Ensemble Workshop, taught by David Rosenfeld of Kugelplex, you’ll learn basic klezmer rhythms and melodies and then learn to play together. The class on the artist Modigliani will explore his early years in the thriving Jewish community in Livorno, Italy and how his Jewish identity influenced his later life in Paris. In the Jewish Book Discussion, you’ll read an assigned book, and then gather for a lively discussion about it.
The Peninsula Jewish Community Center is located at 800 Foster City Blvd., Foster City.
